Due to the current worldwide Covid-19 pandemic we are not currently accepting any visitors on the farm. Please keep an eye on our blog or Facebook page for updates.
We love to share our space and ideas with like minded people so we’ve developed a number of ways that you can join us here at Casalinho.
Volunteering
We accept volunteers both directly and via volunteering organisations such as WWOOF, HelpX and Workaway.
Volunteers join us for a minimum of two weeks, ideally longer, and join in with the daily work in return for meals and a sleeping space. It’s a great way to learn about life on a working smallholding and permaculture project, whilst having plenty of time to explore the local area and make new friends.
You’ll work around the farm in the morning, contribute to the household tasks after lunch, then your time is your own. We make no charge to volunteers (unless wishing to upgrade to rentable accommodation) , simply hoping that they’ll be inspired by our project and wish to contribute with a small donation.

Practical Self-Reliance: A 4-week Immersion Experience
This four week programme guarantees participants dedicated learning time and opportunities to experience a wide variety of different techniques and ideas. You’ll explore a number of themes over the four weeks. Each day you’ll spend time working on tasks related to the current theme, and we’ll organise taught sessions, mini-workshops, and demonstrations throughout. You’ll be encouraged to work on your own project or design, either alone or collaboratively, and we’ll offer you a platform from which to present your work. You’ll have the opportunity to lead the volunteer team should you wish, valuable experience for anyone wishing to work with volunteers or the community later on.
The Practical Self-Reliance programme takes a break during other courses and workshops at Casalinho but you’ll be entitled to a discounted fee if you’d like to include one in your schedule. Otherwise, take the time to relax, work with our volunteer team or on your own projects.
The Practical Self-Reliance programme costs €100 per week. Click here to read more about the programme and the topics we can explore together.
Courses and Workshops
We offer a variety of courses and workshops exploring permaculture and other aspects of self reliant living. Certificated, like the 72 hour Permaculture Design Course, or shorter and more informal, there should be something that fits your circumstances. Our aim with courses is to make them accessible to as many people as possible so we keep costs low and content relevant.
Click here for our current course schedule.
If there’s something we’re not offering that you’d like to learn, or you think you could run a short course or workshop with us, please let us know.
Project Tour
For those who simply wish to visit and discuss the project we offer a guided tour with lunch, booking essential. We’ll talk you through what we’ve done, what we’d do differently next time, and what we’re planning to do next. The tour takes approximately 1.5 hours followed by a shared lunch for an extended chat should you wish.
Minimum donation of 20 euros per person, or 30 euros per couple.
Email us to book a tour.
Camping and Caravans
Sometimes people wish to enjoy our beautiful spot without any obligation to join in with the work. That’s fine! You are welcome to pitch your tent or park your vehicle then kick back and relax. Should you wish, you can join our other visitors for meals.
Campers are expected to donate a minimum of 7 euros per person per night to our project fund, and an additional 10 euros per person for each day’s meals (dinner or lunch only, 6 euros) if required.
We have a caravan and converted truck space available to rent for those who do not wish to camp (these are NOT the spaces set aside for volunteers). The caravan is suitable for a single or couple, whilst the truck space sleeps three and can be booked in it’s entirety or as a ‘dormitory’ style bed space during courses and other busy periods. Please contact us for availability.
